DragonVale

dragonvaleThe idea of this app is that you’re raising a farm of dragons, more or less, and all of the standard “Farmville” style rules apply: hatch dragons into habitats which earn you money, enabling you to build more dragons and habitats all the way up the chain. And Dragon Vale isn’t a bad example of this game — it builds up nicely, the art is colorful and fun (Backflip actually hired a former Insomniac Games artist who previously worked on the Ratchet and Clank series), and everything runs quite smoothly. If you’re a fan of the genre (or want an easy and comfortable way to see what it’s all about), DragonVale is worth checking out.
Features include:

-Dozens of adorable dragons to discover and raise
-A fully customizable world in the sky
-Custom elemental habitats for your dragons
-Decorations, paths, and amenities for your visitors
-Farms to grow treats for your dragons
-A colosseum where your dragons can compete for prizes
-Beautiful, colorful visuals and amazing animations
-A serene, original soundtrack
-Friend support using Game Center or Facebook to visit other parks and trade gifts
-Supports any device that has Game Center

Tower Defense: Lost Earth

tower-defense-lost-earthThis is in fact a tower defense game and you’ll get every single tower defense trope you’ve ever run into. There are plenty of towers to utilize, a number of different hostile threats to annihilate, lots of winding paths for them to mindlessly file into and a base (sometimes several) that needs protecting. The core campaign takes the preset route approach, where you’ll set up your units on a grid and the enemies will take a predestined path. There are, however, seven different challenge stages that offer more variety, including several that utilize free form defense where you create the enemy paths by obstructing the enemy’s movements.Enemy diversity is limited to slow, fast, and slow then exploding-into-fast-creatures.Killing enemies and shooting at certain environmental structures yield crystals that can be turned into more units. Some of the stages have actual resource-gathering units associated with them, but don’t expect it to be a major part of the experience. The limited units and enemy types means each stage has a relatively restricted number of ways to complete it, which is altered slightly based on the difficulty setting you choose. There are three difficulty settings, each changing the number of enemies, your starting resources or the score awarded. There are also four different game modes, the standard defense mode, a survival mode, a resource gathering mode and an attack mode. The first three are pretty self-explanatory, but the attack mode changes the dynamic of the game in an unusual way. You’ll have to defend by setting up towers as you usually would, but you’ll also have to expand through the level to get your units close enough to a boss to attack it.Tower Defense: Lost Earth is also incredible-looking game. The graphics strike that perfect balance between stylized, cartoony and serious. Each turret looks colorful and distinct, telling the difference between stock and upgraded placements is a snap, they’re even fun to watch as they tear hostile alien creatures to shreds. It also supports “pinching” to adjust the zoom;whether it’s in order to get a better look at the battlefield or just to ogle the great-looking critters and critter-blasters.Tower Defense: Lost Earth is a fantastic game. One that genre lovers and armchair generals should not miss.Even people who don’t generally care for tower defense games might want to give it a try with it.

Flick Golf!

flick-golfFlick Golf is unique, beautiful, and so challenging it’s hard to put down. The question is, can you Master it?As you may imagine, the basic premise of this game is to hit a golf ball from tee to hole (or as close as possible) by flicking or swiping the iPod touch screen.Although the control doesn’t end there. It’s then possible to add spin to the ball with further swipes and control it’s rough direction right through to its third bounce.Doesn’t sound so extreme, but that’s where the locations come in.The locations are gorgeously rendered, though barring the first level most of the other stages are less ‘extreme!’ and more highly unusual.Sure, someone might look at you strangely if you chip a shot off a bridge in Italy or off the top of a highrise in Australia, but it feels like Full Fat kind of blew their best stuff right off the bat. There’s ‘World Tour’ which gives the player nine shots to achieve the highest score they can, moving the ball further away and increasing wind speed after each three.’5-ball mode’ gives five balls to score highly, earning extra shots for ‘hole in ones’ or perfect shots. Then finally comes my favorite mode,‘quick shot’ in which the idea is to get the most points in 60 seconds.Extra seconds are awarded for hitting the bulls eye on the hole’s surrounding target or simply getting the ball in the hole itself. This mode offers up some nice arcade-like gameplay, and pressure mounts as the number of seconds left on the clock diminishes — it’s hugely fun.Everything from the menu screens and graphics, to the stage-specific music is neat, tidy and highly polished.Flick Golf is worth playing.Try it and you won’t regret!

Features:
- Try to shoot the perfect score in Quickshot mode.
- Play World Tour, from the USA’s West Coast to Japan in the Far East.
- Varying wind from the lightest breeze, to full on gales!
- Incredibly accurate in-flight spin control.
- Stunningly realised 3D environments.
- Integrated Openfient leaderboards and achievements.
- Full high resolution Retina Display graphics for iPhone 4.
- Listen to your own music while you play!

Nuts!™

nutse284a21

If you love endless runners, jumpers and fliers, how about an endless tree-climber? Meet Jake, star of Nuts! – a great new minute-killer for iPhone and iPod touch. You are a Squirrel who is trying to collect nuts from a tree. The more you progress up the tree, the more score you get.Your goal is to out-do your old score. Although, along the way, new obstacles come along to harm your progress. Then, there are things that help you progress in the level, like speed boosts. You control your Squirrel by tilting the device sideways. This makes the Squirrel go around the tree trunk, as the Squirrel goes up automatically. There are nuts laid out all across the tree trunk.Collecting them is surprisingly difficult, and brings forth an interesting challenge. There is a store where shields and other squirrel accessories can be purchased with coins collected during play. The game is also connected to the game center where accomplishments can be shared between friends. The appearance of Nuts! is very entertaining, the graphics are very cartoonish, and really make you feel like your playing the video game version of a cartoon. This only adds fun to the game. The performance of Nuts! is beautiful.Considering all of the animated elements of Nuts, it is amazing that there aren’t any graphical glitches or lag. This is about as simple as gaming gets, and about as addictive, but what Nuts! has in style it lacks in fresh challenges and varied scenery. No matter how high Jake climbs, the tree and danger zones don’t vary.
