If you have a dinosaur fan in your house then this is the app for you. From the extensive information to the artwork I was impressed with how much dinosaur knowledge is packed into this one app. With over 700 dinosaurs, National Geographic’s brings you Dinopedia, an interactive application that is the most complete Dinosaur reference ever.Dinopedia is better then any dinosaur encyclopedia out there and includes audio pronunciation, vital stats, size comparisons, amazing artwork, bonus video, interactive family tree, and much more. Each dinosaur has it’s own full-page painting and the artwork is breathtaking. Each piece was created after a consultation with a dinosaur expert to ensure its accuracy. There are several ways to navigate through Ultimate Dinopedia and you can see those options by tapping at the top of your iPod screen.A navigation bar will appear with your choices. If you choose the Table of Contents then it will appear at the bottom of your screen, showing a thumbnail illustration for each main screen in the app.Scroll through these and tap on the one you’d like to begin with. There is a section for meat eating dinosaurs and one for plant eaters. Each of those includes detailed informational screens (Dinopedia Pages) for individual dinosaurs. The Dinopedia Page will also contains statistics and a fun fact about the dinosaur. These will include the meaning of it’s name, the time period it lived in, where fossils have been found and it’s length. You’ll see a graphic illustrating how the dinosaur’s size compares to that of a man.A short factual story, with optional narration, is included on the page and some of the Dinopedia pages include short videos.Another way to move around Ultimate Dinopedia is by using the Family Tree. The Family Tree screen gives a visual showing which dinosaurs came first and who was most closely related to one another. You can see the tree for all dinosaurs or filter it to only show meat or plant eaters.Tapping on a dinosaur will again bring up it’s in-depth Dinopedia page.I think that preschool aged dinosaur lovers will enjoy the pictures in this app but the content is best suited for elementary school age and older.

The holidays are coming, the holidays are coming! Can you sense the panic in those words? No? Trust me, it’s there. Every year Christmas presents become a bigger challenge because I’ve got to come up with new gift ideas for all of my children. We have three girls and one boy, ranging in age from eleven to sixteen months. Figuring out boy gifts is never a problem (Go action figures!), but when it comes to my girls lately I am at a loss. My eldest is at a funny in-between age. My next daughter uses most of what my eldest already has and the baby has access two older sisters toddler toys. There is much to like about Toy Hopper. First, the layout is very appealing and easy to use. You can browse through a carousel to see pictures of different gifts. Tap on one of the pictures and the app brings up a larger image which you can “flip” to read details about the the toy. Details include the price, age range and description. Some toy descriptions include a video showing the product in action. At the end of the description are buttons that will allow you to email out a product link add it to a wish list or go directly to Amazon.com for a purchase. In addition to the picture carousel you can view a list of all the toys featured in Toy Hopper. From this list you can filter products out by age, price, type and theme. Each filter you apply narrows down the list of toys. Your final list will include a thumbnail picture, the product price and a snippet of it’s description.I’m a big fan of Toy Hopper’s design, it is extremely user friendly and does a fantastic job keeping the focus on the toys. The quality of content didn’t disappoint either, thanks to the app I’ve come up with some great gift ideas.

Well now there is a new iphone app in town that will kiss those situations goodbye. The Kidtivities for the iPod Touch is full with fun and interesting childrens’ activities that are extremely cheap, or absolutely free, and not to mention that they are both unbelievably fun and educational at the same time. If your child is between the age of 2 and 6 years old, than this is just the app for you, but it doesn’t matter if your child is older, this activities are still fun, they are fun for grown ups to, because most of them require the outdoors, like backyards, or parks, or materials that I’m sure most of you have at your own home. Help your child to become more creative, more confident and more independent with one single app. This app features slick and simple graphics, with easy to navigate menu, activities can be grouped by outdoor and indoor activities, or you can just simply create your own favorites list, if you know an interesting activity but you cannot find it on the list, you can simply e-mail it, you can even e-mail an interesting kidtivity to your friends and family. This is one of the few applications that brings families closer together. But don’t just take my word for it, download this app and see for yourself.
f you have a child in elementary school, you’re probably familiar with Brain Quest: it is most visible in the children’s book sections of bookstores, in the spot reserved for educational items that aren’t quite books but aren’t quite toys, either. In physical form, Brain Quest is a deck of attached cards. The long, thin cards have questions on the front and answers on the back. There’s no “object” to flipping through the cards and tossing questions to your kids, except to interact and learn and think. You don’t score points. You either get the question right or wrong, and then you move on. Simple, but deceptively fun and addictive. Modality has created iPhone versions of Brain Quest Blast Off games for grades 2 through 7; games in which both you and your child are going to enjoy immensely. Despite the educational virtues of these games—they are about knowledge and problem solving—the object is to score points, beat the clock, and move up levels, these games are highly fun and addictive. It seem that once you start playing this game, there is no stopping in the near future, not until you defeat all the levels of course. Each version of Brain Quest Blast Off includes a variety of subjects: math, language arts, social studies, and science and “grab bag” are included in the Grades 2 and 3 versions. Each also provides a variety of question/answer formats: multiple choice, word scramble, fill-in-the-blanks, and true/false, for example. You must complete each subject in each round before you can progress to the next round, which means that “winning” the game takes a lot of time. The fact that this game is perfect for your kids, no matter how old they are, speaks a lot. And like I already said, it is fun, so it is the best thing you can really offer to someone you love and care about.
